Gen Z & Gen Alpha Slang Dictionary (84 Words Explained)
84 slang words explained in plain English, with examples and a note on whether each is fine around parents and teachers. Last reviewed October 2026.
For parents and teachers
Most slang is harmless in-jokes, and it changes fast; a word can be everywhere for a few months and then sound dated. Each entry has a short “for parents” note with context. Where a word is mostly a joke but can sting or has a second meaning, we say so. If a term worries you, ask what they mean by it rather than banning it outright.
Want to try it? The Slang Translator turns normal English into slang and back, just for fun.

How we write these
Definitions are written by us in our own words. We check how established sources describe each word and list them on every page. Where nobody can say for sure where a word started, we say “origin unclear” instead of guessing. We leave out slurs, sexual terms and drug references.
